Historic $26M Cotswold-Style Mansion Demolished in Greenwich’s Exclusive Field Point Circle Association

DEMOLISHED | Built 1916 | 12,899 Sq. Ft. | 8 Beds | 6.5+ Baths | 2.4 Acres
Greenwich, Connecticut

Described as one of “Greenwich’s Great Estates” – The Pryory, a substantial 12,000 square foot Cotswold-style manor behind the gates of the Field Point Circle Association has been demolished after listing in 2018 for nearly $25.9 million. Designed by architectural firm Cross & Cross in the spirit of an English Cotswold-style countryside estate, the architecturally unique residence was built in 1916 for Samuel Frazier Pryor and his wife Ruby Jacques Pryor. The 22-room sat on 2.4 acres complete with a swimming pool, tennis court, private beach, mooring, and 75-feet of direct waterfront. The exclusive property was the topic of a 2018 article by Greenwich Time with the then homeowners revealing, “We restored the house in 1998, we had all the wood stripped down on the first and second floor and the staircase and foyer.” Greenwich Time further revealed that the homeowners had Sotheby’s come in to apply a French polish to the woodwork. “We used the original ‘navy’ blueprints to put the great room back to exactly what it looked like when the house was built,” the homeowner told Greenwich Time, “We used the original ‘navy’ blueprints to put the great room back to exactly what it looked like when the house was built.” Preservation Greenwich published information regarding the impending demolition in 2021.
